Maypole Centenary celebrations July 2013

Greetings Maypolians . . . . .

This year we combined the Maypole School Centenary celebrations alongside our usual walkabout. A success for the school and it brought new faces to our years annual gathering. However - isn't there always a however ! - comments from our usual attendees showed some were a little disappointed with the overall 'Centenary' display and the perceived lack of focus on the more historic side of things. Although the school (and this website) supplied some photos and documents it was felt by some that more original documents / registers / workbooks could have been put out on display for viewing. The general feeling, overall, of our members who attended was that there was little 'Celebration' of the previous 100 years. This is no criticism of the overall event - just an observation from some who attended on the day.

As a result, the maypolehistory team are making enquiries to see if there is a school archivist / historian who has / will be able to put together a collection of old documents, registers exhibits for ex pupils to see in future.

Meanwhile - the newspaper report in the Dartford Messenger managed to put the wrong identity to some of the faces and made some errors in the text.
